Le Royaume-Uni à l'épreuve de la crise 1970-79

The 1970s (in a less dramatic way than the 1930s, but nevertheless important) are known as years when antiracist and antifascist activity was very dynamic. These are the years of Rock against Racism and the Anti-Nazi League. The return of mass unemployment gave the far right opportunities they had struggled to find in previous decades, but the fightback against the far right was powerful, and they lost a lot of ground and entered into a decline which lasted a number of years.

Commentators agree that both antifascist activity and the change in Conservative party rhetoric about immigration led to the decline of such organizations as the National Front, though they do not agree on which factor was the most important.

Today's video is only short : 16 minutes. It was made by the ITV channel Thames Television in 1978, at the time of the biggest of the Anti Nazi League carnivals.

You will find it here

You can always, of course, convert it into an MP3 file and listen to it while practising on your 1970s space hopper.
